Interview mit PABH

Nachträglich zum vierten Advent, ein kleines großes exklusives Spezial - Interview mit dem Drummer Lee Vincent (2.v.r) von Pulled Apart By Horses.

Where are the roots of PABH, what kind of music and bands inspired you and where did you guys met?

Lee – We all have individual influences and inspirations and also some that we share as a group, which makes things fun for us as we’re not directly influenced by just 1 or 2 bands. I could list bands all day so I’ll just say we like a lot of classic rock, post-hardcore, no-wave and 90′s alternative music. We live and met in Leeds. Or ‘Super Leeds’ as we like to call it.

How would you describe your style of music?

Lee – I try not to! The worst question anyone could ask is ‘so what does your band sound like?’. I think if you like any kind of rock music then you might find something you like in our band.

Has the band name a special meaning, any connections to Thom Yorke’s “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses”?

Lee – yes. a direct connection. James named our band after that song because he’s a super mega Radiohead geek.

Next year you will release the new album. Tell us something about it. What will be the difference to your self titled debut album?

Lee – Its called ‘Tough Love’ and its just better than our first album. We feel that the spirit and passion of the band is still absolutely present, but as far as songwriting and playing goes, we’ve got a lot better. We know how to play our instruments now!

We’d like to know you better so some more questions about you guys.

Is it possible to “survive” making “just” music?

Lee – Thats a good question. It is, but only if you’re willing to adapt to the ever-evolving (and dreaded) ‘MUSIC INDUSTRY’ and also, i’m sad to say, if you have quite a bit of good luck. We’ve seen a lot of amazing bands fall by the wayside due to money problems and it can be quite heartbreaking. My advice to anyone in a band would be – don’t think about money or a ‘career’ in music. Be in a band because you love being in a band. Try and operate as a band without losing money before you start thinking about making money. If something good happens, just go with it and be happy for the opportunity.

What’s about your hobbies? Which music do you prefer? What are you doing when you’re not making music?

Lee – We don’t have time for hobbies, and if music wasn’t our job then that is what our hobby would be. We’re lucky enough to be able to combine the two!

Is there any existing record that you’d like to have written and recorded?

Lee – No, I find thinking like that is kind of depressing. There are lots of albums I absolutely love but that doesn’t mean I’d have liked to have been in the band. Apart from ‘Ready To Die’ by Biggie Smalls.

Do you have an advice for someone who wants to start a band?

Lee – Like i said in a previous answer – be in a band because you love being in a band. So many kids these days have their career and their clothing sponsors planned out before they learn to even play an instrument. Get your priorities sorted!!

You became known for your energetic live performances. What was the best thing that ever happened to you at a show and when will we experience these shows in Germany again?

Lee – There are too many to count. One that stands out was this year at Leeds Festival in the UK. We had the biggest circle pit we’ve ever had. So if you want to make us happy when we come to Germany in March, bring your best circle pit.
